How we hold on to time and space

We are often heard saying that we walk with people and that we hold space for people, but what does that mean? In the blog below we attempt to put words to the wordless and to recognize our limits, as well as our potential.

“The pressures of life allow beauty, grace, and love to shape us – if we let it.”

You might be wondering what qualifies me, the living center, or anyone for that matter, to tell you how to live your life – and to that I say, we aren’t. We are neither qualified nor are we trying to tell anyone how to live, rather we bring all of ourselves into each encounter and recognize that the person going through a challenge is the only one responsible for their growth, success or learnings. Of course we lean on the love, support and compassion of others during our times of need – that is what community is all about. But what we have learned is that it is important to feel the feelings, to be in the moment – even if the moment is hard, because we each have our own strength to bring joy and love back into our life.

Often we do not know what we are capable of doing, because we too often focus on the cure instead of on the healing. We here at the Parkville Living Center wish to be the support you need when you or someone you love is going through something challenging. Our vision is that by walking along side people, through thick and thin, (but always with love) we all gain from that experience. If we, or anyone, were to simply direct our troubles away, how equipped would we be to handle future challenges? How equipped will we be to help others? As we encounter more people and more challenges we ALL become more equipped to grow towards community and love – and that is our goal.

We would love to meet with you and talk, or walk with you through today and tomorrows challenges, so we grow together in love and support and recognition of our own and our communities strengths, talents and passions. Please consider reaching out to the PLC, either in a time of need or when you can walk with others through their time of need – let us be in community.

Our Mission

Our mission is to engage the whole individual; mind, body and soul through connection, education, events and activities that celebrate our personal life journey within our diverse and dynamic community.

Our Vision

In the heart of Parkville, a space in which individuals commune to learn, support, and foster the mind, body and soul throughout the various life stages we each encounter.

Our story - always being written

How We Got Started

We got our start during the pandemic, out of a recognition that our immediate world is shrinking and in that is an opportunity to match community needs with community resources. As a member of Parkville Presbyterian Church, founder Marcus Flores saw opportunity where need and resources collide.

Where We Are Now

Confident of the need and the resources available, we are building a coalition of leaders, members, partners and support, to be the heart and soul of the Parkville Living Center. Read more here.
