PLC Volunteer Opportunities

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Parkville Living Center.

Available positions are listed below.

General Volunteer

Assist with a variety of daily tasks such as greeting visitors, answering the phone, organizing materials, making coffee, tidying up our space, leading activities such as cards and games, and enjoying conversation with participants. May assist with administrative tasks such as data entry, written correspondence, filing, or other office support. May also include facility decorating for holidays and/or other activities specific to your interest and skills. Come once a week, once or twice a month, or more often. The time commitment is up to you.

Lunch

Starting in May, the Parkville Living Center will begin offering hot lunches on Mondays and Wednesdays. Dining Room and Kitchen volunteers will be needed.

Kitchen volunteers will assist with preparing the beverage station, serving the meal, and kitchen clean-up. Time commitment 11:00am-1:30pm (2 hours) Mondays and/or Wednesdays.

Dining Room volunteers will help clear and sanitize the dining room after the meal, and ensure the room is in order for afternoon activities. 1:00pm-2:00pm (1 hour) Mondays and/or Wednesdays.

Break Time Meals

Share your ideas for a theme, activities, and dinner for our monthly Break Time Meals. Opportunities also exist to assist with hosting a Break Time meal. These events are held on a Friday evening towards the end of every month from 6-8pm.

Arts & Crafts Fair Planning Committee

Join the planning committee and assist with coordinating this annual fundraising event for the Parkville Living Center. The Arts & Crafts Fair will be Saturday, October 12, 2024. This committee will meet monthly (1 hour) with follow-up activities as needed. Total commitment of up to 4 hours per month and day of event.

Pet Power

This is an opportunity to share your pet with others. Volunteers and their pets will visit residents of senior living facilities in Platte County in this animal-assisted companion program. Pets receive temperament testing by a veterinarian annually and must be up-to-date on vaccinations and other health requirements. Orientation and pet testing is held in January, April and September. Group visits occur the 3rd Saturday of each month. Volunteers may schedule visits on their own as well.

Don’t have a pet but love animals? We need volunteers to assist with our pet temperament testing events. These events are held in January, April and September, usually on a weekday evening.  Time commitment 2 hours 3x per year.

Group Volunteer Activities

The Parkville Living Center will occasionally have opportunities for small groups to volunteer together. These “done in a day” activities could include setting up for special events, painting, decorating a room, distributing fliers to local businesses, and more. Time commitment is 2-4 hours for these group activities. Please contact us for more information and scheduling.
