A thank you from Parkville Presbyterian Church
819 Main Street houses a church, a food pantry and a community center. We often work together in service to our community. This thank you is in regards to one such effort – Welcoming Park University Students.
“It is a joy to work in community with the Parkville Living Center.”
– Marcia T.
The Parkville Living Center (PLC) is just one of three community service entities housed at 819 Main Street, in Parkville, Missouri. We often work together to identify, discuss, and meet the needs of our community. The other organizations in this building are the Parkville Presbyterian Church, and the SPEAC (Southern Platte Emergency Assistance Center) Food Pantry. We are so very fortunate to work closely with these organizations, which have a long and deep history of working with the community. The Parkville Living Center is ‘the new kid’ to this building, so we rely a lot on the experience and network of the church and food pantry in order to identify and meet the needs of our community. This is the case in our engagement with Park University. For a few years now, Parkville Presbyterian Church and the SPEAC Food Pantry have worked together to make Welcome Bags for the Park University International Students.
This year, the PLC was invited to support this Welcome Bag effort. The PLC was able to contribute some snacks, but our contribution was more about inviting the Park U students to think of the PLC as an extension of their community. The PLC was honored to speak in front of the International Student Orientation session in January, and extended a warm and personal invitation to the services offered at 819 Main Street. We look forward to that invitation bearing fruit. Below is a note from PPC:
To: Parkville Living Center
January 7 was a beautiful sunny day, but it was also the coldest day of the new year. Ice and snow greeted Park University international students arriving for the spring term. However, students were warmly welcomed by a rainbow of tote bags filled with donations of toiletries, snacks, and notes of welcome and invitation from SPEAC, the Parkville Living Center and Parkville Presbyterian Church.
Kevin Vicker, Senior Director for International Students at Park, is especially thankful for this tradition in light of the pandemic and the fewer opportunities for cultural exchange beyond the campus.
On behalf of mission ministry at PPC, I thank you for PLC’s generous support arid partnership in this gesture of welcoming hospitality.
