2023 Annual Report

A note from our founder and Executive Director, Marcus Flores

Parkville sure is an amazing place. I am constantly in awe of the way in which our community shows up, speaks up, and comes together. Over the course of 2023 we were a part of many great activities and events, from our Arts and Crafts fair, Thanksgiving, Tech Connect, or Break Time Community Dinners, as you will read about in the following pages, but what really excites me is the community that comes together. In this annual report I hope to convey various metrics and data points, but it is my goal to also have it point our the space in between, where connections are made and strengthened, where grief occurs and emotions vented. Community is all of those places, and for all of those places I am grateful.

2023 Year in Review

2023 has been a year of growth for the PLC. Funding received from the Platte County Senior Fund and the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation allowed us to increase our programming for older adults. We added an additional time for Tech Connect. Now, people have two opportunities each week to lean about and troubleshoot their smartphones, tablets, computers , and other technologies. We established a gardening program, a holistic self care program, and a support group for women grappling with grief.

The PLC reached additional senior citizens through outreach to senior living facilities in Platte County. We began outreach to seniors living independently – to discover their needs and hopes. Our popular Pet Power program brought volunteers and their trained pets to nursing homes and seniro living facilities. These visits always but a smile on resident’s faces.

A few measures to show our community impact and financial stewardship.

We value transparency, authenticity, and feedback. Please let us know your thought, your dreams, and your criticisms, so we can better represent and support our community.

Our story - always being written

How We Got Started

We got our start during the pandemic, out of a recognition that our immediate world is shrinking and in that is an opportunity to match community needs with community resources. As a member of Parkville Presbyterian Church, founder Marcus Flores saw opportunity where need and resources collide.

Where We Are Now

Confident of the need and the resources available, we are building a coalition of leaders, members, partners and support, to be the heart and soul of the Parkville Living Center. Read more here.
