What Is Group Coaching?
Group coaching is when a small group of residents meet with a coach.
They come together to:
- Talk and listen
- Learn simple tools for daily life
- Take small steps that help them feel better
The International Coaching Federation (ICF) says coaching is a partnership that helps people grow and use their own strengths.
Group coaching is:
- Not therapy
- Not medical care
- Not about “fixing” anyone
Instead, we focus on:
- Where you are now
- What you want next
- Small steps that feel right to you
Residents stay in charge of their own choices.
The coach is there to ask helpful questions, listen well, and guide gently.
Who Is Group Coaching For?
Group coaching at Parkville Living Center is a good fit for residents who:
- Feel lonely or a bit left out
- Are getting used to a big change (a move, a loss, a health shift, a death)
- Want to feel more like themselves again
- Want a safe place to talk about real life
- Would like to make or keep friends
You do not have to be talkative to join.
You can share or simply listen. Both are welcome.

- Sleep better
- Join more activities
- Feel more hopeful
- Feel stronger on the inside
What Happens in a Group Coaching Session?
Each session lasts about 60 minutes and follows a simple, gentle flow.
- Calming Moment
We begin with one slow, deep breath together and a short guided opening.
This helps everyone feel present and relaxed.
- Simple Theme
We explore one topic, such as:
- Handling change
- Feeling steady inside
- Making or keeping friends
- Finding joy in small moments
- Staying calm on hard days
- Navigating Grief
- Guided Conversation
Sally asks simple, open questions like:
- “What helped you this week?”
- “What made you smile?”
- “What small step would you like to try?”
Residents may share if they want to—or just listen.
- One Helpful Tool
We learn one simple tool and why it helps, such as:
- A calming breath
- A way to notice good moments
- A phrase for asking for what you need
- A tiny daily habit that makes life easier
- Small Step for the Week
At the end, each person chooses one small step to try before the next session.
You always stay in charge of what feels right for you.
